As Jackson County’s legislators prepare to head back to Jackson for a special session in June, at least two lawmakers say Medicaid will not be on the agenda.

Sen. Tommy Moffatt and Rep. Danny Guice said Gov. Haley Barbour has said the special session, which will come before June 30, will focus on the reauthorization of the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

The state agency primarily assists unemployed Mississippians. If the issue is not resolved before the next fiscal year begins July 1, residents will lose their benefits and the state will forfeit millions of dollars in federal grants, Barbour said in a news release.
