With undefeated and Top 5 LSU coming off of its bye week and heading into the first leg of the Crucible of its 2008 season in a once defeated, wounded yet very dangerous Florida squad, there’s a veritable cornucopia of storylines running in the background of yet another titanic weekend of SEC Football.
Whether we’re talking about Ricky Jean-Francois’ comments about Florida’s training staff (wink wink), or the grumbling about Tim Tebow regressing due to ministerial obligations of his parents burgeoning worldwide ministry, there’s plenty of angles to review before we all sit down to watch a good old-fashioned grudge match between the last two national champions of the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision (Or, as I like to call it, The Artist Formerly Known as D-1).
Before I dig into the matchups as I see them, and truly delve into the game and where I see the keys to victory for both programs, a few interesting stats, facts, and figures as it relates to the two coaches.
Both Urban Meyer of Florida & Les Miles of LSU came into the conference with the 2005 season. Though opinion is slowly changing nationally, its still widely accepted that Urban Meyer is a superior coach than The Mad Hatter. A review of their records reveals some interesting patterns that buck the conventional wisdom as it trends towards Meyer and away from Miles.
