Lumberton alderman-elect Griffith evicted from apartment, denies incident occurred

Lumberton alderman-elect Jonathan Griffith has been evicted from his apartment and must find other housing in Ward 3 by July 6 in order to retain his seat, Mayor Kent Crider said.

But a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office said as long as Griffith has an intent to return to the ward, there is no problem and no time limit on when he must return.

Griffith had been living until Wednesday in a Mississippi Housing Authority apartment. During a phone call with the Hattiesburg American on Thursday, Griffith maintained he still lived in the rental unit.
