Lawmakers quizzed a state agency in charge of billions of dollars in Hurricane Katrina relief Monday, urging it to extend the time for residents to comment on a plan that would divert some of the money to a port expansion project.

But officials with the Mississippi Development Authority, the agency pushing the $600 million port plan, made no commitments at their appearance at a hearing to discuss MDA’s budget for the next fiscal year.
