Mayor Frank Melton called a press conference this morning to refute details released this week during his former bodyguard’s plea deal and to ask the Jackson Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to do more to stop drug deals in the city

Melton told a crowd of reporters at City Hall that his former police bodyguard Marcus Wright was invited into a duplex on Ridgeway Street on Aug. 26, 2006 and did not draw his weapon.

On Tuesday, Wright pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of conspiracy and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in their case against Melton and former bodyguard Michael Recio.
