Mayor Frank Melton says two of Jackson’s city councilmen shouldn’t vote on the next appointee to the Jackson Public Schools board because of conflicts of interests.
But one of them – Council President Leslie McLemore – disagrees.
McLemore, who voted in July to approve Melton’s most recent appointment to the board, said he is content with a Mississippi Ethics Commission opinion that says he can vote even though his wife does some outside legal work with JPS.
“My circumstances have not changed,” McLemore said.
