Mike Tagert Statement on Election Results
West Point, MS – Tonight Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert released the following statement on the result of the First Congressional District Special Election:
“I want to congratulate Trent Kelly and Walter Zinn on their victories tonight. Despite coming up just short in a crowded field, I could not be more proud to have had the opportunity to compete and run a positive campaign focused on the issues. Mary Love and I are humbled by the outpouring of support we have received throughout the campaign from folks across North Mississippi. We cannot thank each and every person enough that made this campaign possible,” Tagert said.
“Serving the people of North Mississippi as Transportation Commissioner has been among the highest honors of my life, and while I ran for Congress to serve at a higher level, that was not the will of the people. I look forward to continuing my public service as Transportation Commissioner and working to build a safer, better transportation infrastructure needed for more jobs and opportunity in North Mississippi.
“It is important that we come together as Republicans and support Trent Kelly in the runoff election on June 2. Trent is a veteran and a person of honor and integrity who will move the ball forward on our conservative principles in Congress and serve the people of Mississippi just as he has served our country in the Army National Guard. I look forward to supporting Mississippi’s next Congressman.”
