Miss. lawmakers try to revive tobacco tax

Two-thirds majorities in both chambers will be needed to resurrect the tax hike issue.

Then House and Senate lawmakers would have to reach an agreement on how much to raise the state’s 18-cent tax, the issue that broke down negotiations Wednesday.

Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, who presides over the Senate, said he won’t help round up the votes to revive the tax hike if the impasse isn’t broken.
