Mississippi Democrats are fielding Congressional candidates in at least three of the four districts this year.

According to the state party, the following candidates have qualified to date:

District 1: Jacob Owens, 24, of Lafayette County

District 2: Incumbent Congressman Bennie Thompson, 67, of Hinds County

District 4: Mark Gladney, 49, of Harrison County

Candidates in both parties have until Friday to qualify. The Mississippi primary is slated for March 8.

Thompson is likely to cruise to reelection and would be favored over a Republican challenger in that district.

Little is yet known of Owens or Gladney in terms of their background and platform.

Freshman Congressman Trent Kelly (R) currently represents District 1 while three term Congressman Steven Palazzo (R) represent District 4. Palazzo does have at least one Republican primary challenger – Biloxi councilman Robert Deming.
