Speaker Philip Gunn, R-Clinton, said Thursday even though there are many differences of opinions among the 122 members of the Mississippi House, there is also “a camaraderie in this body that we all share.”
The speaker said that is why he felt it appropriate Thursday to have a brief memorial service for Rep. David Gibbs, D-West Point, who died Sunday morning at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after battling cancer.
Gibbs, 76, was remembered as a quiet but caring member of the House who got along with everyone.
Rep. John Read, R-Gautier, who like Gibbs entered the House in 1993, said speaking at the memorial service was the biggest honor of his legislative career because of Gibbs’ persona.
