Mississippi primaries seen as easy victories for Republican congressional delegation

Not much is expected to change as a result of Tuesday’s congressional primaries across the state, with Republican Gov. Phil Bryant predicting the state’s four U.S. House members and Sen. Roger Wicker will cruise to victory.

The battle for Mississippi’s GOP presidential delegates is another matter altogether.

The top three GOP presidential hopefuls — former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum and former House speaker Newt Gingrich — made campaign stops in the state late last week and over the weekend in hopes of picking up delegates on Tuesday in Mississippi and Alabama.

No state races are on the ballot.

“I think we’ve got a great congressional delegation,” Bryant said.
