$7B in projects on Mississippi road wish list

Governors from Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi were among the states to recently submit infrastructure projects to the White House they say are ready to go with the help of federal funds….

…Mississippi submitted four major projects, totaling $7 billion, including one to connect U.S. 90 at the state Port of Gulfport to I-10 along Canal Road. Officials had already begun some early pre-construction work on the project at a cost of $158.4 million, but need $357 million to complete it.

McGrath said the port has doubled since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which has meant an increase in heavy truck traffic. She said Gulfport has also undergone major development.

“As more companies move in, then the truck traffic increases,” said McGrath, adding that Gulfport “would like to get these trucks out of the middle of town.”
The most expensive Mississippi project — at $4.6 billion — would improve entrances from roadways onto U.S. 49 from Jackson to the Mississippi Coast.
