Press conference confirms misappropriation of funds in utilities department in Moss Point

Mayor Billy Broomfield and his administration are placing residents of the City of Moss Point – past and present – on notice that money will be collected if it is discovered they received “hookups” on their utility bills, he announced at a press conference Monday afternoon.

After alerting the public about misappropriation of funds in the city’s police and utilities department in October, Broomfield announced on Monday that  investigations into both the police and utilities department are ongoing.

However, Broomfield stated he had asked the State Auditor’s office if it could expedite its investigation as soon as possible regarding two utility workers believed to have played a significant part in the scheme that City Clerk Stephanie Coleman discovered has cost the city around $3.4 million.
