He advised his fellow members “not to allow yourself to become so enamored with your position of authority that you don’t lead … I look forward to leading you and being led by you.”
The House also reconstituted the Rules Committee with members from the old five congressional districts to the four congressional districts.
Rep. Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, is back for his ninth term. He said that while many things remain the same, the near-Republican supermajority in the House will be a change.
“It’s a far-right conservative philosophy prevailing now. I’m a liberal, left-leaning Democrat by admission, so it’s hard to stomach,” Holland said. “But you learn over the years to accept the will of the people. I’m about as anxious as they are to see what the results are.”
