Candidates fail to file mandatory May reports

Nearly half of the candidates running for countywide office failed to file required campaign finance reports by end of business Friday, including several incumbents.

Neither District 5 Supervisor Paul Griffin nor his opponent Michael Jolly filed reports by Monday morning.

John S. Evans, who is facing off against Norman Cannady Jr. for the open Tax Assessor seat, had not submitted his finance report. Cannady submitted his on Friday. Sheriff Randy Tucker submitted his report but his challenger Renarldo Manning did not.

According to Circuit Clerk Lee Westbrook, there is nobody to “police” the reports, and that her office files the documents and sends a copy to the Secretary of State’s office.
