Nightclub Reopens

Staff at the Upper Level have been working throughout the night preparing for their reopening. Managers say in the two weeks they’ve been closed they’ve done everything Mayor Frank Melton and the courts have asked.

WLBT got a rare look inside the club. Staff at the club expect a pretty good crowd, and they are prepared. They say they’ve hired a couple of off-duty Jackson police officers to be security guards. They will also open their door for on-duty police officers who want to check up on the club. They say they want that to keep their patrons safe.

The club was also required to provide more parking, and they have turned a dirt lot across the street into a gravel parking lot. Managers say the lot will soon have lighting. All these orders came after the shooting death of 21-year-old Lakita Williams. Williams and five others were shot outside the club on Northside Drive. Three people have been arrested for their part in the shooting.
