Voters going to the polls on March 13 will not have to show identification at the polls.
A Voter ID initiative approved last year still has to meet approval by the United States Justice Department before implementation. Beyond that, the Mississippi Legislature must enact a so-called enabling law in order to fully implement the new law.
That enabling law must also be cleared by the Justice Department.
“It has to go to the Legislature to work out all the details and then it will have to have Justice Department approval, deputy DeSoto Circuit Clerk for Elections Marla Treadway said.
