Harrison and Hancock counties Food Stamp recipients have doubled since 2007

Many American families will be facing Thanksgiving with a smaller food budget.

Benefits shrank an average of 5 percent for the more than 46 million people who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program after an economic-stimulus package expired Nov. 1.

On the Coast, that affects many more people than it did a few years ago.

In Harrison and Hancock counties, the number of people in the program has more than doubled since 2007 and nearly doubled in Jackson County.
