NUNNELEE VOTES TO END LATE TERM ABORTIONS

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1797, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would outlaw abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy except in the cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother. Following the vote, Congressman Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) released a statement:

“The Kermit Gosnell trial brought to the nation’s attention the grisly nature of late term abortions. Functionally, there is no difference between killing a baby immediately after it is born and killing that same baby inside the womb, and our laws should not make a distinction. No matter your position on whether abortion should be legal in the earlier stages of pregnancy, we should be able to reach a consensus on this question. Surely a civilized nation such ours can recognize the basic humanity of a child six months into its development, a child that can feel pain and survive outside the womb. It is time to end the horrific practice of late term abortion.”

Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi’s First Congressional District. He serves on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Budget Committee. This is his second term.
