One resigns from Hattiesburg Election Commission; calls for others to follow

Turner Jones is gone. City Council President Kim Bradley would like to see his four colleagues on the election commission exit the stage as well.

“If you can’t believe in the election process, then how can we believe in the people who are elected?” said Bradley, regarding the conduct of the June 4 general election and the Sept. 24 special election between candidates Mayor Johnny DuPree and Dave Ware.

“What we need are people who are committed today to fix this (municipal election problems) and make it right.”

Jones sent his letter of resignation to DuPree last week after serving just two months of his four-year term. He stated that he and his fellow inexperienced commissioners faced an almost-impossible task in running the special election.
