Oxford Eagle – Local GOP welcomes back ‘home-grown girl’ Angela McGlowan

The courthouse was filled with about 100 people who came to hear McGlowan speak, many anticipating she would announce her intention to run.

Not yet official

Because of her contract with Fox News, McGlowan said she could not make a formal announcement as to whether she’s going to run in November, but she promised she would have her final answer in February. The deadline to file for the race is March 1.

Also running for Childers’ seat are Mississippi State Senate Appropriations Chairman Alan Nunnelee and Circuit Judge Henry Ross of Eupora. Tupelo dentist and Tea Party speaker Ed Holliday is also weighing a run.

“The more the merrier I say,” McGlowan said. “And if I don’t run, I will help whatever Republican does run.”

The crowd gave McGlowan a standing ovation twice last night, which brought tears to the Oxford native’s eyes.

“It was so emotional for me,” she said after the meeting. “I’ve worked so hard and to see these people, my family, my first-grade teacher and my college professor there and see the pride in their eyes — it was beautiful. This is and always will be my home.”
