Contested county races and a few hot state bids will drive Mississippians to the polls today in near-record numbers, Secretary of State Eric Clark said Monday.

“It is terrifically important for our citizens to understand that a lot of these races, many of them, will be decided in the primaries,” Clark said.

Voters will chose party nominees for offices from governor to transportation commissioner to county coroner. Winners either advance to a runoff Aug. 28 or go right to the Nov. 6 general election.
