The truth behind corporate taxes: Geoff Pender

Mississippi’s corporate income tax collections are up for the first quarter of fiscal 2017.

“Let me say that again, corporate income taxes are up …” Gov. Phil Bryant said at least a couple of times last week, in a Supertalk radio interview with Paul Gallo and again at the annual business Hobnob at the Mississippi Coliseum….

…A mea culpa: I agree corporate income tax cuts enacted to date have probably had only a minor impact on the budget. And I agree that across-the-board, prudent corporate income tax cuts will, in the long run, help the state’s economy.

The thing is, though, state leaders haven’t enacted many across-the-board corporate income tax cuts (although a large corporate franchise tax cut is pending to start 2018).
