Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Randy Pierce announced Monday that he will leave the high court in February, the second justice to announce his resignation in a week.
Pierce, 51, said he will become the director of the Judicial College at the University of Mississippi School of Law effective Feb. 1.
Pierce will oversee training and continuing legal education for judges and staff of the state court system.
Pierce, up for re-election in November of next year, said he already had decided not to seek another term.
“When the announcement was made that a search was under way for a new director at the Judicial College, I thought it would be a great opportunity to use my experience and background in that capacity,” Pierce said. “… I look forward to continuing to work with the judiciary.”
Pierce, who has served as an adjunct professor at Mississippi College School of Law and the University of Southern Mississippi, said he also looks forward to continuing to teach.
