Jackson residents are faced with a dilemma in this year’s mayoral race – options.

There are at least six Democratic candidates who stand out in the crowded race to become the city’s highest-elected official. And the deadline to enter the race – March 6 – is still weeks away.

The choices thus far: a city councilman, county tax collector, state senator, former police chief, ex-mayor and the current mayor.

Voters don’t head to the polls until May 5, but residents already are becoming engaged. Judy Kay Jefferson, for example, was among a handful of people at Peaches restaurant on Farish Street last week to hear Robert Johnson talk about his vision for Jackson.
