When lawmakers arrive in Jackson on Jan. 8, full of post-holiday cheer and re-election zeal, state Superintendent of Education Hank Bounds will have yet another package waiting for them. And unlike years past when education officials pretty much pleaded their case alone, there will be an Internet-connected chorus of public school fans tracking the action and singing out.

The Parents’ Campaign, funded largely by the Barksdale family, has been working the hinterlands. They have e-mail addresses in every school district – and there are almost twice as many school districts as there are counties in Mississippi – to keep people informed on how Bounds’ proposed Quality Education Act of 2008 is progressing.
