Mississippi didn’t make the cut.
“Of the nine states that got a Race to the Top award, only one has a Republican governor. I wish it had been us,” Gov. Haley Barbour said in a statement.
State Superintendent of Education Tom Burnham said, while state officials are disappointed, “we will continue to focus on our goal of improving the educational outcomes of the children of Mississippi.” “We will continue to work collaboratively with key governmental officials, Mississippi’s Early Childhood Advisory Council and other organizations to provide important early childhood education initiatives in our state.”
