Redistricting debate to hit Senate floor

The debate over Mississippi’s new Senate districts will hit that chamber’s floor today, but it remains unclear what plan senators will pass.

On Wednesday, the Rules Committee followed the Election Committee’s lead in approving a redistricting plan backed by Republican Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant.

But the original proposal, pushed by Joint Reapportionment Committee Co-Chairman Sen. Terry Burton, R-Newton, is expected to come up again today.

Those on each side were counting votes at the Capitol on Wednesday.
