Palazzo Statement on H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Palazzo (R-MS), Assistant Republican Whip, said the following after last night’s vote on H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act:

“The House once again has acted. We have done our job. The American people should expect and demand the Democrat-controlled Senate and White House do the same. This bill not only reauthorizes reforms and strengthens the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), but protects all American workers from higher taxes and spurs job creation. Short-term extensions of NFIP are not the answer.

“This bill reauthorizes NFIP through FY 2016, providing the necessary certainty that a critical program to South Mississippians will remain available and sustainable. By incorporating the principles we passed in the House of Representatives via H.R. 1309 this summer, we are recognizing the significance of the NFIP for the American people. I am pleased that ideas I promoted during debate this summer as amendments are included in this bill.

“Last night we passed a bipartisan jobs bill. It includes measures that will support the creation of thousands of high paying American jobs by accelerating the creation of the Keystone XL energy pipeline and by blocking the EPA’s job-destroying boiler MACT regulations.

“There is no reason except selfish political reasons to oppose this bill. However, if the president truly wishes to run for re-election by running against a “doing-nothing” body of Congress, then he should focus his attention on Senate Democrats. It is time for President Obama and Harry Reid to put partisan politics aside and put jobs for Americans ahead of their own and pass this bill.”
