Palazzo Statement on USS Mississippi Commissioning Decision
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Palazzo (R-MS), Assistant Republican Whip, said the following after the announcement of Gulfport as the location for the commissioning of the USS Mississippi:
“It is wonderful news that Gulfport has been selected for the commissioning of the USS Mississippi. My office has been working in coordination with Secretary Ray Mabus and the Navy to ensure the Fourth Congressional District could host the commissioning of the USS Mississippi. Both Pascagoula and Gulfport were excellent options for the Navy. This is Mississippi’s ship. For the veterans who served and also worked tirelessly to have the commissioning in Mississippi, for the ship builders who equip our nation’s war fighters; commissioning our own ship in Mississippi is an achievement we can all be tremendously proud of.” – Congressman Steven Palazzo (R-MS)
The commissioning is scheduled to be held on June 2, 2012.
