U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) said this week that his re-election bid for the 3rd Congressional District was “the worst kept secret” in state politics.
“Monday was the first day that we could file, and we did,” said Harper, who was sworn in on Jan. 6, 2009. Harper, 53, succeeded Chip Pickering, who elected not to run again.
Harper said he learned a lot during his first year in office, which he described as going by extremely fast.
“We’ve seen many things that were very disappointing, particularly the lack of respect when it comes to spending taxpayer dollars,” he said. “I think at the heart of many of our problems is the fact that we can’t seem to live within our means.”
