Robert Moultrie gets 16 months in prison . . . gripes about politics to press

The Moultries spoke with reporters after he was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills to 16 months in federal prison for his guilty plea to making an illegal gratuity – in this case, a $25,0000 political action committee donation to Musgrove’s ill-fated 2003 re-election campaign.

“This was about getting Ronnie Musgrove,” Moultrie said.

His wife, Cheryl, who grew up in Maben told Mills before he sentenced her husband that Moultrie would not be in front of him today, “if he hadn’t married a girl from Mississippi.”

However, prosecutor James Maxwell told Mills this was a serious case of dirty political dealing, not anything else.
