Scoring in major college football is on near-record pace this season

Teams are averaging 28.1 points a game, just behind the record of 28.4 set in 2007. The average of 3.55 touchdowns per team per game is equal to the record set in 2007.

In addition, with four more weekends to play and then the bowls, major college teams already have hit 60 points 27 times this season. Since bowl games became a part of the season statistics in 2002, the most 60 has been hit was 33 times in 2008.
