Sentencing for prominent lawyer Dickie Scruggs has been changed from July 2 to June 27 at his request.

Scruggs faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty March 14 to taking part in an attempt to bribe a Lafayette County judge with $40,000 to rule in his favor.

Scruggs’ partner, Sidney Backstrom also will be sentenced that day, based on an order from U.S. District Judge Neal Biggers Jr.

Scruggs son, Zach Scruggs sentencing will be on July 2. Zach Scruggs pleaded guilty to failing to report a felony. Prosecutors are recommending three years’ probation.
