SCRUGGS UPDATE: Judge denies motion to clarify DeLaughter case record

ABERDEEN – A federal judge today denied Richard “Dickie” Scruggs’ request to “clarify” a key issue in his conviction to bribing then-Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter.

Scruggs, serving time in prison, sought permission to edit the case record to show that DeLaughter’s friend and former colleague, Ed Peters, never said DeLaughter knew about a deal to favor Scruggs’ part in a lawsuit in exchange for help with a federal judgeship.

Senior Judge Glen H. Davidson denied the request, saying he was capable of reviewing the record to determine if evidence shows such a deal, called “quid pro quo.”
