LSU’s recent national championship in baseball raises an intriguing question in these slow, summer months: By this time next year, will LSU or Florida be viewed as the most successful SEC athletics department of the decade?
No such official title exists, of course. But based on national and SEC success, particularly in the most prominent sports, Florida and LSU have been the cream of the crop in the SEC since 2000.
LSU has won 13 national titles in six different sports this decade, including two championships apiece in football and baseball. Florida has six national titles in four sports, including two championships each in football and men’s basketball.
