Today, Tollison was not answering phone calls from close friends and political allies.
Daily Journal capital correspondent Bobby Harrison also said he spoke with a “high ranking” Republican on Wednesday, who said he believed Tollison was ready to switch.
In announcing the news conference, the state party said the defection will bring its Senate ranks to 32 out of 52, a strong majority led in January by then-Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, also a Republican.
A Tollison ally, who asked not to be quoted yet, termed his switch “opportunistic” just two days after his re-election.
