The moving parts involved in nailing down a site, date and opponent can be dizzying, which means that an Irish game at Soldier Field is no rock-solid guarantee.
But Washington and Chicago have been Swarbrick’s targets for off-site home games in 2011 and 2012 for some time — and the Irish announced earlier Monday that they will face Maryland at FedEx Field in the ’11 season, meaning that there was a will and a way in that scenario.
There has been little scuttle, though, about a potential opponent for a Soldier Field game.
Geographical proximity has driven the last two off-site deals to be secured. This fall, Army will face the Irish at Yankee Stadium, roughly an hour away from the West Point campus. And Maryland is less than 10 miles away from FedEx Field.
