Ole Miss Top 25 Players (# 20-25)

#21
Stan Hindman – (1963-1965)

One of the fastest lineman the SEC had seen during his era. Hindman was all-SEC all three years at Ole Miss and all-American his junior and senior years. Once chased down a speedy LSU back after 60 yards and made a touchdown saving tackle. Named SEC sophomore of the year in 1963 when he played on the Rebels last SEC championship team. Named Bluebonnet Bowl MVP in 1964 and to the 1960’s all-SEC team. He was a first round draft choice — by the San Francisco 49ers and the AFL’s Houston Oilers. Named to the Ole Miss team of the century.

#22
John Avery – (1996-1997)

One of the most exciting and explosive runners to wear the red and blue — and definitely one of the fastest. John Avery was signed as a junior college player in 1996 after completing two years at Northwest Mississippi Community College. In only two years at Ole Miss, Avery rushed for 1,730 yards which ranks him seventh on the all-time Rebel career list. He missed the 1000-yard club in 1997 by only 64 yards and amassed nine 100-yard games, good for fourth all-time at Ole Miss. He was selected all-SEC both years at Ole Miss. Avery was a first round draft selection of the Miami Dolphins in 1998 and has also played for the Denver Broncos and in the XFL and CFL. While he had a short stay at Ole Miss, his explosive runs, such as a 97-yard TD run from scrimmage against Arkansas and a 100-yard kickoff return against Alabama makes him an all-time Rebel favorite.
