President Obama has tapped former Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus to salvage his response to the Gulf oil spill. Instead of yet another czar, it’s being treated like a “Captain Marvel” position. But is putting the secretary of the Navy in charge a wise move or a bad appointment?
As noted in the Richmond Times-Dispatch article “Obama to meet with head of gulf restoration plan,” Mabus has been chosen to develop a recovery plan for the region.
This “Gulf Coast Restoration Plan” is designed to be a long term project, with implications that extend beyond plugging the leak and cleaning the shores of Louisiana and several other Gulf states.
