Spat slows House progress

Tensions are running high along partisan lines in the Mississippi House as lawmakers approach a major deadline for moving legislation.

All bills the House does not vote on by today will be dead if they originated in that chamber.

Wednesday was the second late-night session for House members, but some representatives this week sought to slow down the process rather than speed it up.

Employing an old tactic, some Democrats asked for the reading of the entire text of bills throughout the day Tuesday and again Wednesday morning.
