Mississippi Democratic Party leaders have hosted a rare weekend meeting in Hattiesburg, not only to discuss important party business, but also to help re-elect Mayor Johnny Dupree. Both the Mississippi Democratic Party Executive Committee and the Mississippi Association of County Democratic Chairpersons got together at the Forrest County Chancery Building Saturday for quarterly meetings.
Afterwards, many of them went to Mayor Johnny Dupree’s campaign headquarters nearby to pick up election t-shirts and other items before heading out for some door-to-door campaigning for the mayor.
Dupree faces independent challengers Dave Ware and Shawn O’hara in a September 24th special election.
“He’s done an outstanding job as mayor of Hattiesburg over the last 12 years, and we fully expect him to be re-elected again, just like he was back in June,” said Rickey Cole, chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party. “It’s a question of turnout and we’re here to help make sure the voters turnout in support of Johnny Dupree on the 24th of September,” he said.
