From State Rep. Mark Baker (R) Facebook post on Tuesday:

“Last week marked the third meeting of the Asset Forfeiture Task Force. This group, a product of HB 1410, is charged with investigating due process and transparency regarding Mississippi’s civil asset forfeiture laws. We had a robust discussion at this last meeting, and I presented some broad points on which I hope we can build consensus.

“These proposals include a Web site on which all forfeitures will be maintained by MBN; a requirement that a civil seizure warrant for each seizure be obtained within 72 hours from a county or circuit judge having jurisdiction, except for holidays and weekends; and a requirement that all forfeitures be prosecuted by either MBN or the district attorney’s office that has jurisdiction. Hopefully these proposals will set a solid framework for further discussion and potential legislation next year.”
