State legislator wants “Merry Christmas Law”

In a Facebook post, Rep. Tom Miles said, “I believe that we should be able to say Merry Christmas and Celebrate Christmas without being afraid to celebrate wherever we are whether if it’s in the community, work, or even at School.”

According to Miles, the bill was modeled after a law in Texas which allows school districts to acknowledge Christmas. The bill would allow schools to display symbols associated with winter celebrations, including Christmas trees and nativity scenes.

“The goal here is to give everyone the freedom they deserve to say ‘Merry Christmas’ but not to encourage adherence to any particular religious belief. I hope to see all of my other colleagues join in and co-sponsor this bill with me in January,” Miles said.
