Of course, such domination cannot continue forever. During last term, Rep. Jeff Smith, R-Columbus, whose district now includes a portion of Monroe County, was the only Northeast Mississippian chairing a money committee – House Ways and Means. The committee assignments for the upcoming four-year term will be made after the session starts.
“I think the discussion over sectionalism is really overblown, and I have really not picked up on much sectionalism,” said [Hob] Bryan, who during his previous eight terms in the Senate has held numerous posts, including Judiciary B chair during the last term.
“When I was chair of Finance, I certainly spent a lot of time dealing with issues in other parts of the state. People are doing that now.”
