The Mississippi Senate passed Senate Bill 2479 which would make the selling of children illegal in Mississippi. The legislation would allow anyone convicted of selling a child to be fined up to $20,000 and imprisoned up to 10 years.

“I am proud that my colleagues in the Senate acted on this legislation quickly and in a bipartisan manner,” said Sen. Doug Davis who authored the bill, which passed 52-0.

“It is important the most vulnerable in our society, such as our children, are protected. This legislation goes a long way to do that,” Davis said.

Senate Bill 2479 will now go the Mississippi House of Representatives for consideration.
