SUN HERALD | Editorial: Gov. Bryant see through threat to transparency

Gov. Phil Bryant did the right thing when he vetoed a Senate bill that would have made government a little more opaque.

The original intent of the bill was to shift more control of the Coast Coliseum and Convention Center to the Coast. And that’s a good thing.

But at the 11th hour, a provision was added to the bill that would have made it harder for the public to monitor the dealings of the Commission that oversees the Coliseum, its budget and a $7 million trust fund. The Mississippi Press Association protested and Bryant rightly agreed that was a bad thing.
