Sun Herald files new suit against auditor, DMR

Laird said the newspaper hopes to expedite its case by naming Pickering and his office, in addition to the DMR, in the new lawsuit.

The Sun Herald requested records of the DMR’s Katrina Relief account in November and its Artificial Reef account in late December. The DMR had earlier been willing to give the newspaper copies of agency records, but denied the request in early January because the auditor’s office had subpoenaed the same records for an investigation of DMR management under Executive Director Bill Walker.

The DMR’s governing board fired Walker in mid-January.
