It’s a start’ is the weak praise the public hospital transparency bill deserves.
“It’s not perfect,” some say and we agree. We would rather have had Sen. Brice Wiggins’ also imperfect original bill. But we would have preferred an even stronger bill. We wanted to open all the doors and windows at Singing River Health System and air the place out.
That’s not going to happen. At least not until the next legislative session, where Coast legislators ought to get rid of most of the exemptions in SB 2407, which is on its way to the governor.
They should begin by removing the exemption for services agreements, a term that’s far too vague.
