Moss Point Mayor Billy Broomfield is too fond of secrecy and silence.
Not only does Mayor Broomfield discourage other city officials from speaking freely, at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting Broomfield would not permit any of the nearly 100 people in attendance to comment then and there on the proceedings.
The hot topic was the status of Keith Davis, who has submitted his resignation as police chief. Even though Davis was discussed by the mayor and aldermen both openly and in secret (during an executive session), Broomfield would not permit any of the Moss Point residents in attendance to share their thoughts.
Broomfield’s conduct is troublesome.
As a former state legislator, he should have a greater appreciation for transparency in government. And as mayor, he should be more respectful of the opinions of constituents and colleagues.
